General comments:This is not a bad car overall , very good ecomomy & performance for a 1400, reasonable build quality as well ,My previous 3 vehicles were VW Jetta's ,Although the Opel will never match the Jetta in terms of performance & build quality , its still very good value for money & alot cheaper to aquire on the used car market than a Jetta.
Problems:A few months ago , I replaced all 4 shocks , 2 x front strut mounts , brake disks , ball joints , control arms& cv-joints on my wifes 1993 Opel Kadett 1400 ( Astra Shape) A few weeks later , there was a knocking sound as if something was loose coming front the left front side . This knocking sound would make itself known everytime the car road over bumps & uneven road surfaces. I took the car back to the shop a week ago , only to find that the left front strut mount damaged , this was new unit replaced a month ago. So I replaced it again & now a week later the noise is back. What I have noticed on the old strut mount ,is where the wear is occuring , for some reason the circular hole on the mount where the top of the Shock gets bolted has become twice its size , thus causing movement in the strut assembley & in turn causing the knocking sound. I am out of ideas as to what would cause this to happen to the saddle\strut mounts. Please help
