this happend with my pajero i.O 2 years back and i was really worried when I engaged the 4wd mode (4H) but could'nt transfer it back to 2H. At that point i feared that something in the gear box is broken and now it would drain my wallet. But thank God it was nothing as serious. Actually it happens when a rubber ball in the 4wd gear lever breaks down in to pieces due to temperature or wear and tear by the time... In this case the ball is to be replaced. It costed me around $350 to replace the ball. Since then its working perfectly fine and i am loving my pajero i.o 4wd feature... |

by the way it doesnt matter if you drive pajero I.O in 4H mode. There's no harm in it. You can drive in 4H mode with same peace of mind as you'd drive in 2H. Infact it is more safe to drive in 4H mode as it gives u better road grip and superb handling. However make sure you dont drive it in 4HLc or 4LLc mode on the road as it would seriously damage the gear box... :) |
