1986 Mitsubishi RVR hold light on dashboard problems in New Zealand

Problems:only had car few months and the hold light has come on on the dash lights. What does this mean and how do I get it off

There should be a switch by your gear stick with a/t or hold on it.

When on it stops the gear box changing down the gears, stopping hard acceleration.

Good for snow driving. You've probably noticed it doesn't rev above 3000 rpm atm.
