Problems: | I cannot get reverse gear in the opel astra 1998 1.6e. When I put the gear in reverse the car moved forward, seeing its automatically goes into first gear. What is the problem and how can I solve it |

On your gear lever is a spring which you lift up to get into reverse gear. Normally when you engage into reverse a very unmissable sound is heard. If you don't hear this sound you obviously have not thrust into reverse. Do the following. 1. Unscrew the gear nob and you will see if the spring is still there. It may have become stiff such that it does not allow the inhibitor to go up sufficiently to allow you to go into reverse. 2. You will also see there is a white groved bar which inhibits you from engaging in reverse when in normal driving. This is the thing the spring keeps depressed. 3. It may be possible the spring keeps the inhibitor pressed down thats making it difficult for you to engage in reverse. 4. Of course check your gearbox oil. |
