Problems: | I bought my iST from a used car dealer here in Narita, Japan. It had only 20,000 km on the clock and was tidy. But after only 10 months of normal driving (at regular speeds averaging 60kph) it developed this weird whining/humming noise whenever it goes at 40kph, between 58-61kph and between 80 and 100kph (loudest) this is coupled with a noticeable vibration through the floor; not extreme, but definitely noticeable. It happens either when driving in gear or rolling downhill in neutral at those speeds. I've taken it back to the dealer numerous times to get them to try and fix it but they are telling me all this idiotic stuff about it being the tires. (they've actually changed the tires three times to prove to me that it was merely the type of tires, but would never let me take another iST out for a comparison drive) they're also had a rear bearing changed citing that as the cause, but in all instances the problem persisted and had become progressively louder. I have no idea what it is but I'm mad that they would try to avoid taking any responsibility for a car they sold to me on good faith and meanwhile the problem seems to be deteriorating. If anyone else has experienced this with an iST, I'd really like to hear from you and find out what the cause is. Please, if anyone has the slightest idea what this may be caused by, by all means contact me at spill-bill@hotmail.com Being a foreigner in Japan can be an exercise in extreme frustration when the locals decide to give you the run around :( | |

Have a 2002 ist 1.3 same issue, have not replaced bearings yet, sounds seems to come from the gearbox (auto), noise stops as soon as foot is taken off the accelerator. |

We don't have many of these cars in Canada, but sounds like bearings. Perhaps you should buy a motorcycle. |
