General comments:During the rare moments when my wife lets me drive it, the smooth quiet ride provided by the RX300 reminds me why we bought it. The extended warranty offered with the CPO purchase in 2003 was not needed. After three years of ownership and 40k miles, the upright position of the seat is nice but the steering wheel orientation is awkward. Our RX300 now has 88k miles on it yet still feels new. The touch screen version Nav system is very user friendly. At the time of purchase the paint already had swirls embedded in the clearcoat from poor washing technique. A few more coats of clearcoat at the factory may have helped. I am a little disappointed from the feedback of bumps through the steering wheel. Although there is good power in the 3.0 liter V6, the 19mpg average mileage that I have realized with the 93 octane gas required by the manual has turned me off a bit. Overall we are quite happy with the RX300 and hope to keep it reliable and payment free to the 200k mile mark.
What things have gone wrong with the car:The plastic automatic antenna wand broke at the 87k mile mark after six years of running up and down. This part is not included under the warranty. The change collector(ashtray) is a bit finnicky. Forcing it open will only break the hinge plastic requiring a $350 part. The Panasonic battery finally died at the 6 year, 88k mile mark. We have removed the roof rack which served nicely for several years as a windnoise maker and carwash interference device.
