General comments: | Don't buy this car, as Toyota has failed to inform its customers about the potentially explosive and lethal problem associated with its poor gas tank design in spite of complaints from customers and obvious knowledge of the problem from its dealers. In contrast, a similar problem with the Honda 2000 Civic was handled well, with Honda informing all its customers of the problem of the gas tank strap and replacing them for free.
What things have gone wrong with the car: | Innova gas tank leaks due to movement of the gas tank against the rubber insert and the metal support frame. The gas tank expands and contracts due to the clogging of the pressure relief valve system that was designed to relieve overpressure, and the repeated metal contraction/expansion during car movement leads to metal abrasion of the rubber pad and eventual metal-to-metal contact and metal wear, causing leaks. Please note from the picture that the center of the gas leak is at the interface between the gas tank and the metal support frame, I inspected this area and found the rubber pad to have been worn through!! This indicates that the metal-to-metal contact occurred at this point.

It happened to my 2006 j variant gas engine, when i woke up i smelled the gas, did not bother to look underneath, when i moved the van out of the garage, there it was, gas leaking, got the scare of my life. It leaked where the bracket contacts with the tank, mine was the front end bracket. scary indeed. |
