The XC90 was introduced last year as Volvo's first offering into the SUV market. It returns for 2004 as a carryover with no changes from the previous model year. The XC90 is available in three models: 2.5T in 2WD and AWD setup and the T6 AWD. A turbocharged 2.5L five-cylinder engine powers the 2.5T's while the T6 is equipped with a more powerful twin-turbocharged 2.9L six-cylinder engine producing 268-hp and 236 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are mated to a four-speed Geartronic automatic transmission that gives the driver the option to change gears manually or drive as a true automatic.

At its launch as a 2003 model, it was presented with a choice of two models, the 2.5T and the T6.
